Star Wars the final chapter opened to enthusiastic crowds, or should I say hordes? Revenge of the Sith broke all kinds of records and could easily break more. It doubled the midnight opening record, formerly held by Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. It took out both the biggest single day and opening day records not to mention the largest Thursday opening and tied Matrix Reloaded and Spider-Man for fastest to $100M (3 days), but managed to miss the Friday-Sunday weekend record held by Spider-Man. In its four-day weekend (Thursday-Sunday) it scored an impressive $158.4 Million.
This last Star Wars film episode was a chance for a lot of fans to dress in costume. Two groups here in Victoria were out in force (pun intended) over the opening weekend and the costumes were excellent. My favorite was Vernon’s John Klinger, who made his own Boba Fett and came to Victoria to appear at Silver City with the 501st Legion during the opening weekend showings. The 501st is a fan costuming organization with members world wide, including a few of dozen members in BC, check their website at members.shaw.ca/outerrim
