With this new trailer release, I think its about time I spilled my theory on this new Star Trek film. J.J. Abrams has purposely kept us in the dark about the story and plot of this film, other than it shows the first adventures of the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise including first Captain, Christopher Pike. Now as we have heard and this trailer features Leonard Nimoy as older Spock and Zachary Quinto as younger Spock.
Why would we see Spock in two different time periods? I think the story starts post Star Trek: Nemesis, where Spock and some of the other members of the old Enterprise crew have gathered, then it either travels back to pre-academy days via storytelling or some form of time travel. My money is on a time travel event that changes the past and therefore allows for the rebooting of the series that this is, without destroying the canon material that has gone before.
Will Abrams turn this into a TV series? No, I don't think so. Its much more profitable to Paramount to keep going as a film franchise, besides It gives Abrams more room and budget, but time and economy will tell.
What is the life-size Enterprise he talked about to The Hollywood Reporter? That in itself could be a red harring, or it could be something to do with a new version of the Star Trek Experience, which closed in September at the Las Vegas Hilton.
